Australia has launched a major upgrade of its aircrew training enterprise, investing more than AUD 300 million in the Future Air Mission Training System to strengthen the readiness of the Royal Australian Air Force. The initiative reflects Canberra’s focus on preparing aircrews for increasingly contested and information-driven operational environments.

The F-AMTS program, being delivered with CAE Australia, will raise training throughput by as much as 70 percent by combining state-of-the-art simulators, digital training ecosystems, and enhanced courseware. The system integrates theoretical instruction with immersive synthetic training and live-flight elements to mirror the complexity of modern air missions.

F-AMTS will support a wide range of mission aircrew roles and aircraft types, including those associated with the MC-55A Peregrine signals intelligence aircraft and the MQ-4C Triton maritime surveillance drone. Approved users of the system include Electronic Warfare Officers, Weapon Systems Officers, Air Battle Managers, Airborne Electronics Analysts, and Air Mobility Officers, ensuring common training standards across multiple mission sets.

The 10-year contract includes the development of a new facility at RAAF Base East Sale, with initial capability deliveries scheduled from 2026. The program will be delivered in cooperation with Australian industry partners such as Nova Systems, Adacel, DXC Technology, Milskil, MMCLD, Airflite, and Seeing Machines, supporting local jobs and long-term sustainment of the training system.
